OUGD603 Charity- Raising Mama Africa Branding

I was approached by someone who was telling me they were setting up a charity called 'Raising Mama Africa' He said "we are a charity that will support underprivileged kids and people in Africa, and parts of Europe and Asia. He informed that it won't start functioning until next year because they needed to raise proceeds from a festival which would put 40% of the proceeds in to it. But they needed a logo to use to contact other businesses to sponsor the event.

I didn't charge for this project.

I started looking into african culture, colours and styles of design. also by looking at other charities and how there logos appear.

Clients Idea: " We was thinking about the globe, with Africa on it and hands holding the globe, as if it was protecting it"

I took there idea into consideration and attempted it however I informed them that it wasn't very original and will look like every other charity logo.

 First Attempt

I hated this design, I played with variations but I just wasn't happy with it at all, so I decided to try another angle.
After researching how other designers have designed for charities I wanted to think of a strong concept because visually I was just thinking about other designs which were too predictable. I decided to go with the idea of a Ribbon, as it symbolises unity, and togetherness. As there are three places the charity would help, Africa, Asia and Europe all tied together in unity, working together with an African influence.
I decided to research into colours, which brought me to Kente Clothing.  Which is a traditional Ghanaian print that royals in parts of Ghana wear.

I decided to use this as an influence within my designs because the colours were vibrant but also extremely traditional:
