To Design a Logo for an up and coming Leeds based DJ
When I was approached by this DJ to design his logo, I was a bit hesitant to say yes, only because he knew already what he wanted when it came to his logo and after previously working with difficult clients I didn't want this to be the same story. That he would disregard my ideas and stick to the one he wanted. However after thinking about it, I finally agreed.
Below is the image he sent me that he wanted me to re-create into a logo..
His DJ name is K1 Trupo-I didn't ask why ?
However this logo incorporates the K1 and T and I asked him what the bottom bit was supposed to be and he told me that it was just a pattern however the writing was his birthday in roman numerals. Although I wasn't happy to follow a design that I didn't particularly believe was aesthetically pleasing I went ahead and attempted it. I told my client that there was possibly too much going on in the logo and if it was going to be on a small scale then majority of the logo would become illegible.
Below are the roman numerals of what he asked could be included.
The above images are of the recreation of the design he gave me.
I decided to also play with some ideas of my own, trying to stay close to his design but also try something different in the hope that he wouldn't be too offended that I haven't done what he asked.
Development:
The below images were my favourite. I showed my client these designs and luckily he loved them.. Thank God !
He said that the cartoon face was 'cool' however it wasn't as professional and so they could be used for stickers or other promotional material.
Below is the logo he chose, which I think was the best option.
The Logo is quite versatile because you can either have with the black fill, or no fill depending on the background it is sitting on. The above logo would be used if it was going to be used on a white background and as you can see from the business cards when used on colour or pattern it because just a white logo:
